A note from The Vermont Viking

From: (drewclan@aol.com) | Date: 2015-11-13 08:12:52 UTC-08:00

Some local friends sent me a huge, and very welcome update on one of our old letterbox series. We have been remiss in maintaining these old treasures, I admit.

Remembering the splendid hiking at that spot with my family brought back such memories. Feeling nostalgic, I went looking through old letterbox files and found this charming note from Erik, one of America's earliest letterboxers. It suits my mood on this lovely late fall Friday the 13th and I thought I'd share it with you. Jay in CT

>>>

Bonnie (and all others captivated with this season):

A wise old friend of mine once told me that the secret of happiness was in developing a "sense of nostalgia for the present." I like that very much. I also like Robert DiNero's character from New York New York: Its a "major chord" when you are doing what you love to do, with someone that you love, in a place that you love to be..

Well, VT is pretty fine these days as well. Our mountain view changes breathtakingly every day every season. It never gets old or worn.

So a toast to happy letterboxers everywhere. Carpe Diem!

Thanks for sharing, Jay. Wish I had had a chance to meet him. Susan is a real treasure and I can just imagine what Erik was like. We all appreciate his enthusiasm and contribution!

Excellent viewpoint! Thanks Jay.

If someone can share a photo of those lovely views of VT, I'd like to add it to the rotation of photos on the LbNA home page!

Here are two photos that accompanied letterboxes on the clue pages of an earlier incarnation of the LbNA site.

One picture is taken from Dear Leap above the Inn at Long Trail at Pico Mtn. Letterbox was of the same name.

The other is of the Whales Tails, statues and letterbox originally located in Randolph, but both later moved to Williston.

A little more nostalgia:

Two Vermont stamps carved by Erik: Prayer Rock and Enigma Stone, both from 1998.
